One Act Play & Short Film Festival!

UPDATE, OCTOBER 27, 2022 | 4:55 P.M.
Open Casting Call for Performers: “The Ottoman Tells His Story”

WHAT: Short Play (26 minutes) as Holy Trinity Parish’s (Gainesville, VA) entry into the 2023 Arlington Diocese One Act Play and Short Films Festival (Performances February 18-19, 2023)

WHEN: Sunday, November 20, 2022 2:00 – 4:30 PM (Our Lady’s Hall)

DETAILS: For over a decade, Holy Trinity has been proud to enter a variety of one act plays in the annual festival, taking home numerous awards including best actor, best actress, best ensemble and best show.

This year’s entry will be the hilariously funny dark comedy, “The Ottoman Tells His Story” by Lewis Matthews, performed by agreement with the author. (14 Actors: 7M, 5F, 2 M/F, Some Doubling as Needed • 4-6 Highly motivated technical crew • 4 detail oriented set and costume crew members • Student Assistant Director, Student Deck Stage Manager also needed). Due to the smaller cast size, this will be a highly competitive audition so please observe the following:

• All performers will need to provide a one-minute comedy monologue, memorized, that reflects your ability to act and show a strong emotional range. Physicality highly encouraged. There are thousands of monologues available online; but think about the venue and type of play before you select one. We can’t stress “memorized” enough. Practice your monologue many times, and in front of an audience, it will make a difference!

• Dress comfortably and bring water! You will need it.

• Rehearsals will be December, January, and February; most Sundays 2-4:30 PM. The last two weeks leading up to the show will add several additional weeknight rehearsals, TBD based on cast schedules. Please bring your well thought out conflicts with you.

• Casting decisions are by capability and match to the role; all things being equal, preference will go to grade ranking and parish membership.

• Be willing to work on our stage crew or as a staff position if not cast. This show is going to require a LOT of pre-stage & backstage help due to the unusual nature of the costumes and set. Preference for these 10-12 positions will be for those who ask first, then uncast performers.

• If you are cast, the first cast meeting and read through is Sunday, December 4, 2:00. This is a mandatory event.
